What is there to discover in our beloved country?

The typical Dutch landscape consists of moorlands, bogs, and swamps, which you can find anywhere you go. The natural beauty of the Netherlands is also found in the dense woodlands and valleys of the Hoge Veluwe National Park, the long coastal strips with sandy beaches of Zeeland, and of course dunes. All of these landscapes are intercepted by waterways, so if you love water activities you won’t be disappointed. There are a total of 21 National Parks in the Netherlands, and with us you can rent an apartment in the middle of one! Each park has a unique variety of local flora and fauna but in general, most of the areas represent well the distinctive characteristics of the Dutch nature.

The Drents-Friese Wold National Park is one of the largest nature areas in the Netherlands. The park has three lookout towers build on a high point for a wide view of the surrounding scenery. In Doldersummerveld you can observe the classic Dutch heathland at its best, while in Aekingerzand you can admire a view of the largest drifting sand area at your feet. If you really want to get high for a great view, then the Bosberg tower is the place to go. On the top of the Bosberg tower you are 35 meters above the ground, looking at the Frisian drifting dune and a massive oak tree of more than 300 years. The view for anyone who dares to climb this tower is a truly rewarding.

Designated as a national park in 2018, the New Land National Park is the newest national park in the Netherlands. What is more impressive is that it is the largest man-made nature park in the world! The land is a well-kept secret waiting to be discovered. And a true paradise for bird enthusiasts. Flevoland, where the park is located, is also a bird-resting stop for migratory birds. The forests and wetlands are shelter for a wide variety of birds – from birds of prey like the buzzard and the kestrel, to the water-loving species such as the spoonbills and the tern. The true highlight of the bird kingdom in the park is definitely the bald eagle. Take a walking trip in one of the designated routes and there’s a chance to spot the mighty bald eagle flying in the skies.

Ready for adventures in nature?

Booking an apartment in Holland with us means that you will be situated far from the cities and attractions. But the surroundings of your own holiday home are the perfect backdrop for outdoor activities. Maybe the Netherlands is not the perfect destination for skiing holidays (it is actually possible in some places), but there’s many activities to fill your time with. Biking, fishing, hiking, the choice is yours. In the end you can just meditate in the quietness and recharge your batteries for months ahead. A spa holiday in a luxury apartment is also an option. There’s one thing you must try during your holiday in Holland and that’s biking.

Travel around with your bike around the country!

The Netherlands is a very small country, which offers a great advantage for visitors. Even if your apartment is located in the middle of nowhere, you can take your bike and travel around to discover many different landscapes in one day. With the extensive bike network and tiny size of the country, you have the possibility to go from village to village in no time. Bike around to admire the views of the countryside and meet fellow travellers on the route. Driving around nature you can stop for a picnic with the whole family. Play games outdoors, go for a walk to meet the forest animals or go mushroom picking.

Have fun in the water

If you want to avoid the crowds or traffic, you can also bridge the small distances in the country on water. Water trips are very popular in and outside the cities, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to rent a boat and travel on water. If you prefer lazing around on your nature holiday, that’s the best way to discover the Dutch landscapes. The Netherlands is a country filled with waterways but there is one specific place, celebrated as the water province of the country. This is the province of Friesland. Thanks to its open polder landscape, Friesland is a preferred destination for water sports. Canoeing, kayaking, paddling, it’s all possible. You can organize a sailing trip or learn how to sail yourself! For the travellers with adventurous spirit we can also suggest windsurfing and wakeboarding. Wake your senses and get your adrenaline pumping right from the start!

You can’t prepare for the Dutch weather

There is one word that perfectly describes the weather in the Netherlands: unpredictable. You can experience all four seasons in one day! You wake up energized and excited for the new day, a total contrast with the shadowing clouds. This doesn’t kill your enthusiasm, so you step outside in the garden of your apartment in Holland for your morning coffee. Luckily, you’re rewarded with a shining sun! Then as soon as you’re ready and packed for outdoor adventures, cold rain starts pouring everywhere.

Don’t let this dissuade you from going outside. Prepare breakfast or take a few minutes to read a book, because rain will (hopefully) stop in just a few minutes When you finally decide to venture out into the wilderness you’re greeted with a bit of sun, some drizzle, perhaps a small storm, and most likely wind. The only predictable feature of the Dutch weather is actually the wind. You will either be gently touched by the breeze or completely cooled by the gales, but wind will be present anywhere you go.

There’s not much you can do to avoid the windy weather. On the positive side, the climate of the Netherlands is moderate in every season. The winder is mild and the temperature rarely drops below zero. The average temperature in the spring and autumn is around 10°C, but there’s definitely a difference between the two seasons. The autumn is the wettest season with most rains coming in November. In September you can still experience warm sunny days so it is suitable for a holiday outside.

However, spring and summer are the best times to visit the Netherlands. Some argue that the Netherlands is most beautiful in spring. Nature comes back to life so you will be blessed with living green landscapes and the fresh smell of blossoming trees. The views are unforgettable, but you still have to pack a warm jacket and footwear suitable for wet weather. As for the summer, this is when you can enjoy an adventurous holiday. The months of June, July and August are not too hot, but warm enough for swimming. The average summer temperature is 17°C, but in recent years there were heat waves with hot weather of 28°C and above. So, if you want to book a beach apartment in Holland for water adventures, summer is the best timing. Keep up with the weather forecast and book a last minute holiday in the heart of nature.
