This Catalan natural stone house is only 40 kilometers from the sunny Mediterranean shore. You’ll find it in a lovely mountain village in the Pyrenees, not far from Perpignan and the Spanish border. It is the last house along the path to the vegetable gardens and has an unobstructed view of the valley. The two-story house is estimated to be at least 300 years old. Each floor is a separate little house/ apartment. The apartments are built to accommodate two persons each, with the possibility to place a third bed for an additional guest / child. Behind the house is a large natural garden with swimming pool and a stunning view. Both apartments have their own entrance, their own roomy bathroom with a toilet, wash basin, and a shower. Both have a sitting room / bedroom of approximately 24 square meters, with a woodstove, storage space and a separate kitchen. This is the upstairs apartment: the entrance to the upstairs apartment is at the top of a set of flagstone steps at the side of the house, with a small landing/ terrace at the front door where you can enjoy the rays of the early-morning sun. This apartment has a large, comfortable two-person bed, is attractively decorated and has a new, fully-equipped kitchen.
Nature and surroundings
The surroundings are exceptionally beautiful, the perfect setting for outdoor adventure in unspoiled natural surroundings. Below the village is a shallow, fast-running river with little cascades, along which the owners have their organic vegetable garden. The valley of the Boules River forms a magnificent terrain for hikers, and you can walk straight from the house into the surrounding mountains. The drive south along the Boules river to the village is one of the loveliest in the eastern Pyrenees. The limestone formations near Belesta are also worth a visit, as are the Cathar fortresses at Peyrepertuse, Queribus and Puilaurans. A walk through the narrowest canyon in Europe, the Gorges de la Fou, with its rare flora and fauna, is something you won’t forget. If you are a lover of picturesque villages, this is also the place to be. The oft-painted fishing village of Collioure on the Mediterranean, for example. Or Castelnou, built around the foot of a medieval castle. Or the Prieure de Serrabonne, an ancient Augustinian monastery built on a mountain close to the village, with its glorious, world-famous pink marble columns and arches. But you can also spend a day sunning and swimming at the beach, or visit Spain and the Dali Museum in Figueres. The property contains several gardens with tables and chairs and deck chairs in the sun or in the shade. Plenty of space to relax, enjoy the view or read a book.
