Chambres d'hôtes Dordogne

Chambres d'hôtes is the French translation of a bed and breakfast. Staying in a bed and breakfast allows you to experience two of France’s best things – nature and food. In a bed and breakfast accommodation you get to spend time with the owners and get to know them and their culture well; you will also have a chance to fully relax and not to think about breakfast before embarking on your daily adventure in France.

Dordogne is located in Southwestern France and it is named after the river Dordogne which runs along its territory. It is a region with a long history dating centuries back, as well as remarkable nature which you really need to explore! The region is also a worldwide renowned gastronomy center, so rest assured that you are bound to try a lot of French cuisine on your trip.

The nature of Dordogne

Dordogne is the perfect place for those of you who wish to disconnect from the outside world, immerse themselves into nature and get away from the urban noises of popular tourist hotspots in France. Especially the area of Perigord-Limousin Regional Natural Park with its exceptional wildlife will surely take you on a wild adventure away from everything else. Three of the rivers flowing through Dordogne have created a beautiful network of green valleys here. Auvezere, Dordogne and Vezere rivers create a unique ecosystem recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve.

If you are an enthusiast for beautiful panoramas like us, do not miss the chance to visit the panoramic gardens of Limeuil. These gardens are situated up on a hill overlooking a medieval village of the same name. The view from the gardens is breathtaking and the landscape which is created by the surrounding nature embracing the village is picturesque to say the least.

One of the most remarkable sights in Dordogne is Lascaux. This is a network of caves near Montignac. The most interesting part of this underground network is the existence of wall paintings. There are more than 600 wall paintings dating from the Paleolithic era. You can join an organized tour and learn a lot about the meaning behind these drawings. Lascaux is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site and an important archaeological monument for France and Europe as a whole.

Activities

Dordogne is a famous destination not only for gastronomists, but also for hikers. There are more than 700 km of long-distance routes and around 4,000 km of shorter ones. On any of these routes you will be able to discover not only Dordogne’s nature, but also its cultural and historical heritage altogether. Dordogne River, as well as Vézère, Isle, Dronne and Auvézère rivers, are the perfect place for water enthusiasts. Activities such as canoeing, water rafting and many more are available for the visitors to any of the rivers in the region.
