Glamping Languedoc-Roussillon
Have you ever heard of glamorous camping? This is a contemporary type of camping facility where you are able to enjoy nature and all the camping advantages in a more comfortable and more luxurious way. Glamping is a great option also for first-time campers or families. You will have the chance to enjoy nature while indulging in a comfortable glamping option such as a tent, a yurt or a cottage.
There is no better place to try glamping than the glamourous country of Europe! France will welcome you and show you its most precious natural wonders. Languedoc-Roussillon is a former administrative region, now part of Occitan. It is the southernmost region in France (mainland) and home to the French Riviera. The province shares a border with Spain and Andorra to the south.
The nature in the area
Languedoc-Roussillon includes five French departments, many of which are quite famous for their natural and cultural characteristics. Auvergne is one of those departments. The French adore this region. It is a popular hiking area, where everyone is able to immerse in French nature. By visiting the Auvergne National Park, you can explore a stunning land with rivers, beautiful valleys, lakes and swamps, laying on top of thousands-years-old volcanoes.
We perfectly understand that it is sometimes an impossible task to escape from the Cote d’Azur crowds. Nevertheless, if you choose the right period of the year when the season is at its beginning or near its end, you might get a chance to enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the world almost by yourself. A small, rarely crowded beach is Calanque de Saint-Barthelemy. It is situated in a mesmerizing bay area where you can enjoy the late summer colors of nature without the hustle and noises of the famous Riviera beaches.
If you want to explore a bit of a wilder area head to Cirque de Navacelles. It is a short drive away; however, this is one of the largest canyons in Europe and a must-see! The river Vis carved the Causes of Larzac rocks, creating a series of gorges. The gorges can reach up to 300 m deep in some places. There are three panorama platforms, which provide stunning views of the Cirque de Navacelles and the Gorges de la Vis.
Activities to try
The most popular place to visit in the area of Languedoc-Roussillon is the Carcassonne, which welcomes visitors into a real-life fairytale. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a totally enclosed citadel called Basilique Saint-Nazaire et Saint-Celse, situated on a ridge above a small town. There are two entrances, one of which was featured in the Robin Hood movie. Take the scenic walk along more than 3 km of completely preserved medieval ramparts as an amazing way to immerse in some of the beautiful surroundings. Auvergne is a hikers' paradise. The trail network is complex and includes routes with different levels of difficulty. All the trails eventually open up to amazing panoramic views of Puy de Dôme - the highest volcano in the region.
