Nature of France

France has a dense river network(the largest rivers in the country are the Seine, Loire, Garon, Roca). The river valleys are well developed, and the rivers themselves are deep. The rivers of France, especially in the mountains, have large energy resources; hydroelectric power plants are being built on them. They are not very suitable for navigation(with the exception of the Seine). One of the reasons for this is the large fluctuations in the water level, which, in particular, are characteristic of the country's longest river, the Loire.

Once forests of pine, bast and beech covered almost the entire territory of France. Now, and even then in a modified form, they have survived only in the mountains. Newly planted forests grow on the plains. In connection with deforestation, the animal world has also significantly thinned. Wild fauna has been preserved in the mountains, in protected areas. Basically, there are still large animals in the reserves - bears, red deer, wild boars; in Corsica there are mouflons. But the wolf was preserved in the memory of the French only as a character in the fairy tale about Little Red Riding Hood. Protected areas in France occupy about 20 thousand kilometres. The national park in the Alps and the reserve for the protection of flamingos and swans in the Rhone delta are remarkable.

Entertainment in France

Lovers of gourmet cuisine can take a fascinating "culinary" or "wine" journey - after all, every region of France is famous for its unique dishes and fine wines. This country gave the world mayonnaise, cream, rolls, entrecote, cutlets and the most delicate omelet. All these words come to us from the French language. In general, a lifetime is not enough to taste all the delicious local cuisine. But, nevertheless, having visited France, you should definitely eat a crispy croissant for breakfast and drink a cup of aromatic coffee. True gourmets should go to Provence - the kingdom of exquisite delicacies. Lovers of good wine do not need to tell a lot about Bordeaux, Beaujolais, or “Veuve Clicquot”.

Do you want to sunbathe on the snow-white sand, swim in clear water or walk along the beautiful promenade to enjoy the smell of the sea? France will be happy to showcase its best resorts. Their names make you dizzy: Nice, Cannes, Courchevel. For those hungry for peace and solitude, the semi-wild island of Camargue with its birds, black bulls and herds of snow-white horses, lost at the mouth of the Rhone River, is perfect.

Lovers of sports and cultural entertainment will not be deprived in this country. You can watch, and maybe even take part in the famous Tour de France cycle race. Also a good pastime - you can visit different cities, and even win a prize. Alpine resorts await skiers, and bullfighting fans will be able to see the black bullfight on the Camargue Island. It is worth going to Cannes not only for the sake of contemplating the beautiful expanses and changing the climate. During the Cannes Film Festival in this town you can see a real "starfall"; in addition, bright holidays and interesting festivals are held in this town. So the expression "to see Paris and die" is not entirely correct, except for the capital in France there are still many interesting places

Climate of France

Four types of climate prevail in France. A temperate maritime climate prevails in the west of the country, close to the coast, and is exemplified in Brest, where it is mild in winter(7°C in January) and cool in summer(16°C) and rainfall is frequent(800mm) for 180 days of the year. Mid-latitudes are dominated by a continental climate in the hinterland, with hot summers(average July temperature 18°C) and more severe winters(average January temperature 2°C), and precipitation falls on fewer days a year.

The mountainous climate prevails at high elevations, where the temperature affects mainly the altitude, and in winter it is sharply cold and prolonged. Precipitation increases with altitude and occurs as snow in winter, with many villages in the high valleys snowing for more than 50 days each year. In Briançon, in the Alps, the average temperature is -2°C in January, and 17°C in July; annual rainfall averages 587mm. The Mediterranean climate is found in an area approximately 20 to 60km wide along the Mediterranean coast. The zone is characterized by hot, dry summers, mild and humid winters, and few rainy days per year. In Marseille, 550mm of rain falls for 60 days a year and the sun shines for over 3,000 hours a year. Average temperatures are 7°C, in January and 23°C in July.
